The goose in this picture has a lot of friends, but is sending everyone on the proverbial "Wild Goose Chase"!
It seems an unknowing fisherman dropped a fishing line that somehow has become entangled around both of its feet. The goose is now hurting after almost 5 days in and out of the water, limping and probably in great pain. When I got involved a chronology of phone calls, emails, etc. has reminded me that either accidental or due to carelessness, this goose may not have any options as long as it continues to be healthy enough to limp away.
We have contacted City Animal control, they came, the goose escaped capture. We contacted Five Rivers, DGS, and NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation. No help yet. Today, I was given a number of a group of volunteers called the North Country Wild Care Rescue. They recommended, feeding the affected goose out of the water, so that if and when a volunteer is found in this area, they will have a better chance of catching it.
So, one potentially careless act may be causing the demise of an unsuspecting goose at our Pond. If you see someone on a Wild Goose Chase from today on, give them a hand, they are going to need it!
Harry J. Ermides, President
